Discussion:
Create executable error
(too old to reply)

Hi Dan;

Can you tell us ...

1) O/S version
2) IM version
3) Does this happen on any other PC?
4) Is your IM development folder or its sub-folders / files write protected?
5) Is your O/S system Temporary folder location in a long path name or one
with spaces?
- If so, relocate that to something like "C:\Temp" and change your
system variables.
- Long path and spaces can mess with the linkage editor and cause GPF
like conditions

Hi, while trying to create an executable file from Infomaker
(a process I have done successfully many times) I received
an error message that I have attached a screenshot of. It
states "an unhandled win 32 exception occurred". Infomaker
will not allow me to continue on and create the exe. Any
advice on how to get around this?
Thanks, Dan

Chris,
I've answered your questions as best I can, hopefully it
helps.

1) Windows XP, 2002, sp 2
2) Infomaker V11.0
3) I do not know if this happens on other PC's because I
only have one license which is on my computer, so I don't
know how to try it elsewhere.
4) I am not aware of any "protection" on the files.
5) My temp files are located at C:\temp (I do not know what
files in that folder are Infomaker related though).

This whole error message seems strange because it has never
happened until today...

Thanks for the information. Sounds like you system TEMP work area is great
and this should be automatically picked up by IM. I have found that the O/S
sometimes gets a little flaky if the TEMP folder gets really congested with
files. I always clear that folder out on a regular basis (FWIW).

If you reboot and try to build the EXE again - does it work OK now?

Well, there are very few files in my temp folder. I
rebooted and it still does not work to create the exe.

I recently installed MS SQL Server Mgmt Studio, but that
should not have affected Infomaker...any other ideas?

It might have ... I have heard that install VS has corrupted some PB 11.x
installations.
You might want to redo the IM install.

Dan;

If you have created a new PBL for your IM project - then all is OK.
A full uninstall should leave your PBL alone however, I would back it up
(just to be safe from the Murphy guy <bg>).

I re-installed IM and still no luck. I deleted 2
registery items recommended by Microsoft in regard to the
"win32 exception" and dubugging, so I no longer get the
"win32" message, but now IM just shuts down automatically
when I try to create an exe. Is there somethine else in the
registery I should look at? Below is what I deleted.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\AeDebug\Debugger

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\.NETFramework\DbgManagedDebugger

OK .. my last recommendation then is to download the upgrade to IM 11.2.
This update is free and available from the "downloads" section of the Sybase
website. Maybe the patches included in this package will alleviate your EXE
creation problem. There were various problems addressed in the 11.1 and 11.2
minor releases.

uninstall IM, will I lose all the files in mylib.pbl?
Can I save them on a flash drive or something so they
can be re-used when I re-install IM? I am concerned
about losing all the reports I have built... >
It might have ... I have heard that install VS has
corrupted some PB 11.x installations.
You might want to redo the IM install.

Thanks for all your advice. I had downloaded IM 11.2
earlier and that didn't seem to solve the problem by itself.
I worked w/ our IT recover a copy of my library file before
my problems started and I used that along with un-installing
IM and renaming the C:Sybase folder "old" so that it
couldn't be referenced. Once I re-installed IM and used the
"good" library file, everything seemed to work. So far so
good, something was corrupt w/ the installation and/or lib
files. I appreciate your responses to ALL my questions. -
Dan

OK .. my last recommendation then is to download the
upgrade to IM 11.2. This update is free and available
from the "downloads" section of the Sybase website. Maybe
the patches included in this package will alleviate your
EXE creation problem. There were various problems
addressed in the 11.1 and 11.2 minor releases.
uninstalled completely and restarted, same negative
result, IM shutsdown completely and asks if I want to
send an error message. >
Did you do a complete Uninstall of IM first and reboot
before starting the new/re-install?
re-installed IM and still no luck. I deleted 2
registery items recommended by Microsoft in regard to
the "win32 exception" and dubugging, so I no longer get
the "win32" message, but now IM just shuts down
automatically when I try to create an exe. Is there
somethine else in the registery I should look at?
