Discussion:
Requirements for DataWindow and Infomaker
(too old to reply)

Hello:

We are having issues with InfoMaker and pbl files in DataWindow.NET 2.5.
Here is what we did:

1. We inherited an ASP.NET project that used DW.NET 1.5

2. We upgraded to DW.NET 2.5, and migrated our old 1.5 pbl files to

2.5. As I understand it, this should put our files into 11.x format.

3. Our client has InfoMaker 11.5 and tried to create a pbl file and

register it with our application, which uses a PBDATA100.dll file and

the version 2.5 DW.NET DLLs. The process failed and we're not sure if

it is because he is using IM 11.5.

4. Our client tried to use IM 11.5 to open the pbls that we delivered

(the ones that we upgraded using DW.NET 2.5) and IM asked him if he

wanted to migrate them. Is the 11.5 format different than the 11.0

format?

Any help you can provide would be great. We are at an acceptance build

and our client is finding this discrepancy, so we are under the gun!

Thanks,

Scott

Yes - opening 11.x (where x = 0, 1, or 2) PBLs in 11.5 will trigger a
migration.

OK, thanks. So DW.NET 2.5 generates 11.[0,1,2] pbl files, but not 11.5 pbl
files? Our application uses DW.NET 2.5, but our clients recently purchased
IM 11.5. Our ASP.NET application allows users to register reports from pbl
files and then run those reports via DW.NET 2.5. If our clients generate
pbl files in IM 11.5, will they be able to register and run reports in our
application, or is DW.NET behind IM 11.5 in terms of pbl file format?

Thanks,

Scott

Yes, dw.net is behind. Using IM 11.5 will not work.

From Product Management:

At this time, we do not have a roadmap in place for Datawindow.NET. All
engineering resources have been reallocated to work on v12 as it is a
signficant effort, much larger and more intense than any prior release.
Once we are well into our beta cycle for v12, we will have a better idea
about how comprehensive and complete our implementation for v12 is. At that
time, we can then assess when we will be able to deliver a new release of
DataWindow .NET.
